Role responsibilities:

This position is for a senior Systems engineer for a mixed and growing environment of various storage & compute hardware. This position will work with the existing OS, Application, Network and Virtualisation teams to manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot, and support servers, storage & backup systems for Arkphire’s clients.

This position will take leadership of technical projects and coordinate all aspects of the project lifecycle including design, implementation, and customer liaison.

This position will assist with implementing new system hardware and software and provide input for developing local operating procedures and policies as needed. This position will need to be adept at monitoring the ongoing operation of the systems and providing utilization reports using existing tools to identify problems and corrective actions as needed.

  • Responsible for design, installation, configuration, security and maintenance of highly available enterprise compute, storage & backup systems

  • Be the customer facing technical lead on assigned projects, create HLD & DLD documentation and present as necessary

  • Monitor performance, errors, and warnings on compute and storage systems

  • Maintain storage & compute policies and standards

  • Troubleshoot performance problems and propose short term fixes and long-term solutions

  • Refresh data from one environment to another at the request of the application development staff

  • Follow and maintain in-house documentation for repeatable processes, including software upgrades, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution

  • Follow ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) practices for Change Management

  • Communicating effectively to senior members of IT, other IT staff & customer representatives

  • Ensure data replication across sites is kept consistent and mission critical applications can be recovered in a timely manner.

  • Carry out storage & compute migration activities and hardware refreshes.

  • Ensure the compute & storage estate is kept up to date with regular patching & maintenance of the underlying infrastructure

System Engineering professionals focus on key client issues that impact the core business by maximizing operational value, driving down the cost of quality, and enhancing technology innovation.

Required Skills knowledge & experience:

  • Five or more years of experience with Dell/EMC Power Protect (Isilon) enterprise NAS storage platforms (accreditation preferred)

  • Extensive knowledge of VmWare / VXrail       administration (accreditation preferred)

  • Extensive knowledge of FC network administration

  • Knowledge of Commvault backup & restore administration

  • Knowledge of Dell EMC VPLEX distributed virtualisation software.

  • Knowledge of Dell EMC Unity block storage arrays.

  • Strong knowledge of disaster recovery methodologies

  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS administration

  • Five or more years of experience with enterprise level IT environments

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Experience of implementing enterprise IT technical projects
